A Personalized Multimodal Lifestyle Approach to PCOS
The 2025 Gautum et al study investigated how modifications across different lifestyle-based treatment modalities benefit the anthropometric, reproductive, metabolic, and mental health outcomes in PCOS.14 All of the included 80 studies from over 20 different countries were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and were further categorized under diet and supplement treatments, physical activity interventions, or behavioral and educational therapies.
The systematic review assessed a variety of dietary patterns such as:14
- Low glycemic index (GI) diets
- High-fiber diets
- Antioxidant-rich diets
- Anti-inflammatory and omega-3 fatty acid-rich diets
- Ketogenic diets
- Microbiome-rich diets (i.e., rich in fermented foods, whole grains, fruits/seeds, and fiber)
